Did the National Council of La Raza(NCLR), or La Raza for short, help write the McCain-Kennedy Senate Amnesty Bill? According the left-wing Washington Post, they maintained close contact with La Raza during the writing of the bill. Kennedy held nightly conference calls with La Raza and other militant pro-illegal alien groups. Kennedy called these groups “stakeholders.” The Washington Post says that La Raza, and two other groups had “virtual veto power” over what went into the bill.

La Raza would later give Senators Sam Brownback and Lindsey Graham awards for co-sponsoring the Amnesty bill.

Who is La Raza?

La Raza grew out of the Marxist-Leninist Chicano organizations of the 70’s, primarily the La Raza Party Unida. The La Raza Unida Party was founded by Prof. Jose Gutiérrez. Even though Gutiérrez has a long history of making extremist and violent declarations, La Raza issued him the “Chicano Hero Award” in 1994.

“We have got to eliminate the gringo, and what I mean by that is if the worst comes to the worst, we have got to kill him.” – Prof. Jose Gutiérrez

La Raza is closely tied to the radical student group MEChA (Moviemento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan), who’s slogan “Por La Raza Todo, Fuera de La Raza Nada” means, “For the Race, Everything; Outside the Race, Nothing.”

On September 20, 2006, Georgia Congressman Charlie Norwood issued a press release calling the NCLR a “radical […] pro-illegal immigration lobbying organization that supports racist groups calling for the secession of the western United States as a Hispanic-only homeland” and accusing the organization of undermining “the ability of state and local police to fight criminal illegal aliens.”
