Black students battle over pair of sneakers.

11 members of the African American Cultural Committee at a Philadelphia High School were attacked by a rival group of black students from other schools. All over a pair of stolen sneakers.

Ironically the school had just held an assembly the same day called “stop racism and urban violence.” During the assembly, the issue of blacks committing violent acts over pairs of sneakers was a main theme.

During the early 90’s there was a wave of violence from young black males over Starter brand jackets, which included numerous fatalities. More recently, the target has been Nike brand sneakers.
