Race, not curriculum, puts Finnish students on top while the US is average. The gap between top and low performers in Finland is also far smaller than the gap in the US.

Wall Street Journal pushes make-believe pseudo-scientific reasons to explain these gaps between Finland and the US which completely ignore the obvious. The main reason put forth by the Wall Street Journal is that Finnish kids have more play time. This absurd conclusion can be immediately ruled out by places like Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan where kids are given far less play time yet still outperform US students.

Very few countries outside of Europe and Northeast Asia participated in the study used by the Wall Street Journal. However, the ones who did all rank at the bottom. Out of 57 countries, the United States was 29th. The US scored roughly half way between Finland and Mexico.
