Pastor Jeremiah Wright is the senior pastor at an explicitly racial black church. Sen. Obama is a long time member and vocal advocate of the church. Obama praised Wright as one of his mentors in his autobiography.

Wright has advocated “Black Liberation Theology” and the teachings of James Cones on national television. In fact, the church itself was founded around the virulent anti-white teachings on Cones. Cones wrote that blacks are the chosen race, and that Jesus was black and a victim of “white racists.”

One of the tenants of James Cones “Black Liberation Theology,”

If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community … Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.

In the New Testament, Jesus is not for all, but for the oppressed, the poor and unwanted of society, and against oppressors … Either God is for black people in their fight for liberation and against the white oppressors, or he is not [Cone].

Predictably, Wright claims that the media criticism of his church is an “attack on the black church” in general. Read Article.
