On June 4th – 7th, the EU will conduct an unprecedented Europe-wide election with all 27 member nations electing all new members of parliament. Most EU member nations have moved sharply to the right in local, regional, and federal elections since the last time they elected members of the European Parliament. Italy and Poland are now controlled by right-wing coalitions, whereas Socialist coalitions ruled just a couple years ago in both countries. 2009 EU elections should mark a massive loss for Socialist, Communists, and Leftists parties and a huge gain for right-wing, center-right, and moderate parties.
