Ukrainian Boxer World Champ After Beating African

Twenty years ago, professional boxing was dominated by blacks. Don King, the broom-haired tycoon of boxing, corrupted the sport into a stage act similar to professional wrestling. Under the King regime, talented white fighters were sidelined and only white punch dummies were allowed in the ring to battle the black super-stars.  Boxing, as a legitimate professional sport, was on the ropes.

Meanwhile, boxing was growing more popular in Europe, and the best fighters were emerging from the former Soviet satillite countries. Now, the WBC champion is Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, who beat Nigerian Samuel Peter in an 8th Round TKO on Saturday night. Vitali Klitschko’s brother, Wladimir, holds the IBF, IBO, and WBF championship belts.
