65th anniversary of the bombing of Dresden.

The bombing of Dresden was largely kept secret from the American public until the movie Slaughterhouse five was released. The movie was written by Kurt Vonnegut who was an American POW in Dresden during the bombing. Prior to the bombing of Dresden, Winston Churchill had declared the city a safe haven for refugees. About one million refugees had flocked to the city doubling it’s population. During the “firestorm” bombing attack between 100,000-200,000 people perished. Most of the victims were women and children who had sought refuge in the city.
