Bill Clinton defends Byrd's KKK ties.

Remember when Trent Lott toasted Strom Thurmond on his 98th birthday? The media went into an anti-Republican, anti-white, and anti-southern firestorm of hatred. Will the media open a firestorm of hatred against Bill Clinton for defending Byrd’s KKK ties?

“He once had a fleeting association with the Ku Klux Klan, what does that mean? I’ll tell you what it means. He was a country boy from the hills and hollows from West Virginia. He was trying to get elected,” former President Bill Clinton said of Sen. Robert Byrd. Watch video.

Sen. Robert Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan in 1942 after returning home from WWII. He held the leadership title of “Exalted Cyclops” of his chapter. He remained a member until 1946 or 1947. In 1944 he wrote a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS) stating “I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side … Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”
