CDC: 1 in 16 black men will be diagnosed with AIDS.


The CDC issued a new report saying HIV/AIDS is still increasing among black men in the US. It says one in every sixteen black men will be diagnosed with HIV/AIDS during their life. One in thirty black women will be diagnosed.

The CDC cited MSM (men who have sex with men) and intravenous drug use as the leading causes of HIV/AIDS in black men.

Between 2006 and 2008, blacks rose from 45% of all new people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS to 50%. The make up 12-13% of the US population. Between 200 and 2008, HIV/AIDS diagnoses among blacks increased 12%.

In 2007, among men who claimed to have never engaged in MSM or intravenous drug use, black men were 24 times more likely to be diagnosed with HIV/AIDS than white men.
