W.Memphis Councilman Faces Assault Charges…AGAIN!

West Memphis City Councilman Marco McClendon has been charged for the second time in less than a year with assaulting his girlfriend, Khawlah Upton, 26. McClendon, who once declared himself “King of West Memphis,” awaited trial on previous assault charges when he was arrested again this week for punching the same girlfriend in the mouth.

Last April, police answered a domestic abuse call at McClendon’s house and found bruises on Upton’s neck. Upton claimed McClendon tried to strangle her after learning she was pregnant.  Due to the victim’s pregnancy, McClendon was charged with felony assault.

Following his first arrest, a black colleague of McClendon’s on the city council, Lorraine Robinson, commented that she believed McClendon was innocent and, “I’ve known Marco for a long, long time and I don’t know him to be this caliber of person.”

West Memphis Police Chief Bob Paudert describes McClendon as a “thug”, a “coward” and a “pimp”.
