Local NAACP President still not prosecuted for gun violation 1 year ago.


On May 29, 2010,  President of the Alton IL Branch NAACP James Gray was found in possession of a partially loaded 9mm pistol. Alton police responded to a witness’s report of shots being fired by a man in the street. The witness allegedly watched the same man, later identified as Gray, being stopped by an officer. Illinois still has no concealed carry permits so gun possession on the street itself should have been illegal. Gray was jailed for the night and released with no charges being filed.

A special prosecutor was appointed by a State’s Attorney soon after. He is still “reviewing” the case with Gray’s attorney almost a year later and no charges have yet been filed. What could be the delay?
