MLK dedication a huge flop!

Photo from Associated Press. Despite performances by Aretha Franklin and Barack Obama, fewer than 10,000 people showed up.

Despite having Aretha Franklin and Barack Obama, only a small fraction of the desired crowd showed up.

The large Maoist style statue was designed and carved by a Chinese national who made some of the famous Mao statues in China. An outlandish $108 million was supposedly spent on the statue. $10 million of that came from the taxpayers. The family of Martin Luther King pocketed at least $800,000 in “licensing fees.”

The outlandish cost and similarities to statues of Mao have made the statue a laughing stock and an eyesore.

Aretha Franklin performed at the dedication and Barack Obama spoke. Disgraced US Attorney General Eric Holder and notorious con-artist Jesse Jackson also spoke. Barack Obama used the event to attack the Republican party. Which is the same party that MLK belonged to and supported. Event organizers claimed 400,000 would show up.

Premium tickets were $85.

Despite excellent weather, the turnout was dismal. The Washington Post only estimated that 10,000 people were attended. A mere 1/40th the desired audience. Photos and video of the event suggest that 10,000 may be a generous estimate.
