Social Security killed Scottish Independence

Fear of losing Social Security benefits appears to have defeated Scottish secession.

The Yes vote won in every age group from 25-54. For 55-64 it was 52% No. But for 65+ it 73% NO.

Only 27% of NO voters said they voted NO because of a strong attachment to the UK. For everyone else it was economic.

Another factor was the small amount of Tories in Scotland. They voted NO by 95% simply because they don’t want to live in a socialist country. Scotland is vastly more Socialist than England. Only one of Scotland’s 59 UK parliament members is a Tory.
