MS media outlet publishes shock video of “Jackson kids playing with guns”

This video was originally posted on Instagram, presumably by of the people in it.

The Facebook Page of WLBT Channel 3 in Jackson, MS re-posted it. It received Over 400,000 views in the first 16 hours. The caption says “This video of some Jackson kids playing with guns was posted on Instagram and has community members on edge.”

The caption goes on to direct viewers to the WLBT website for more info. However, the station’s website has no mention of the video. The station may have changed their mind after Facebook users started posting racially charged comments to the video.

Jackson, MS is about 80% black. In 2013, the city elected Chokwe Lumumba, a veteran of hardline black nationalist groups, as mayor. Lumumba advocated creating The Republic of New Afrika, an independent black homeland in the United States with Jackson as it’s capitol. Lumumba died of natural causes in 2014. Lumumba was a featured speaker at the 2010 New Black Panther Party Conference in Atlanta while he served as a City Council member.

Between this video and the election of Lumumba, we see that Jackson has become a city that is very alien to the rest of the United States. Is Jackson a lost cause? Should the rest of America be in favor of it becoming an independent “New Afrika.”
