Major Sunni Tribal Council pledges allegiance to ISIS
Fallujah is an ancient city, which currently has a mostly Sunni Arab population of 326,471. It was a Jihadist strongehold during the US occupation of Iraq. It was one of the first Iraqi cities that ISIS ever controlled. It has been largely under ISIS control since January of 2014. Karma is another large Sunni Arab city in Iraq that sits near Fallujah.
The Sunni Arab tribal council representing Fallujah and Karma has now officially declared allegiance to ISIS. They accuse the Shiite dominated government of Iraq of persecuted Sunni. A spokesman for the tribal council says they are ready to fight with ISIS against the military, government backed security forces, and Shiite militia.
