Saudi Arabians make up nearly half of foreign insurgents in Iraq.

Saudi Arabia — not Syria or Iran — supplies the largest number of foreign fighters and suicide bombers in Iraq, senior U.S. military officer and Iraqi lawmakers say.

According to the Los Angeles Times, about 45 percent of all foreign militants in Iraq are from Saudi Arabia; 15 percent are from Syria and Lebanon; and 10 percent are from North Africa.

Those stats are from official U.S. military figures that the Times has reviewed. Also, nearly half of the 135 foreigners in U.S. detention facilities in Iraq are Saudis, according to a senior U.S. military officer.

The senior officer also told the Times that Saudi fighters are believed to be responsible for more suicide bombings than any other nationality.
