Bernanke was confirmed 70-30, despite a debate in which few Senators were willing to publicly say anything good about him.

17 Republicans, including some of the most conservative, were joined by 13 Democrats, among them some of the most hard-line socialists, in voting no.

Sens. Feingold, Specter, Mark Begich (AK), Maria Cantwell (WA), Jeff Merkley (OR), Bernie Sanders (VT), Sens. Barbara Boxer (CA), Byron Dorgan (ND), Al Franken (MN), Tom Harkin (IA), Ted Kaufman (DE) and Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), as well as a lone GOPer, George LeMieux (FL).
