Birmingham stunned over 150 day sentence for crackhead who paralyzed gifted student.

From UK Daily Mail…

A hit and run driver who left a gifted young student paralysed and needing round the clock care for the rest of her life has been jailed for just 150 days.

Cowardly Rohan Bingham, 35, left bleeding 23-year-old Clare Carver for dead after she bounced off his windshield then drove to a party in order to buy crack cocaine.

But despite pleading guilty to five charges relating to the incident, he was sentenced to just six months in prison plus 14 days for drug possession.

Due to receiving a discount on his sentence for an early guilty plea, this means he was given a paltry total of 164 days for the horrific crime.

Miss Carver, the daughter of a senior lecturer at Durham University, is still in hospital following the crash on November 20, but is not expected to make a full recovery.

She cannot walk and is barely able to communicate, but her family say she is grateful just to be alive. Her father Dr Robert Carver said: ‘At present, Clare is full of gratitude.

‘She is grateful to be alive, grateful for the care and attention that she has been shown, and grateful for the love and concern that surround and sustain her.

‘But she is beginning to fathom the full implications of her injuries.’ Bingham, from Bestwood, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to five charges at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Thursday and was banned from driving for four years.

He had been driving a silver Ford Focus along Nottingham’s Derby Road, on the night in question when he crashed into Miss Carver, who was crossing the road at the time.

Bingham did not stop and fled the scene.

Members of the public who had witnessed the collision helped Miss Carver, who had suffered a massive head injury and a number of other critical injuries to her body.

She was taken to the nearby Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where she underwent emergency surgery.

Police arrested Bingham shortly after the incident and when officers searched his car they found a wrap of crack cocaine inside.
