Black History Month: First African Born Senator?

The largest newspaper in Kenya ran this now famous article celebrating the first “Kenyan Born” US Senator. Obama ran practically unopposed after the Republican incumbent resigned to get his scandalous divorce case out of the news. The winner of the Republican primary also backed out. Obama spent much of the campaign season unopposed and actually left Illinois to help other Democrat candidates campaign in other states. Republicans finally placed black conservative Alan Keyes on the ballot because “he would split the black vote.” During the Obama/Keyes debate, Keyes described Obama as being born in Kenya. Obama did not disagree.

Whether or not Obama was really born in Kenya, he may have promoted the claim himself earlier in his political career.
