Trayvon Martin: More proof diversity has failed.

There is a lot of he said-she said mumbo jumbo surrounding the Trayvon Martin shooting case. Was Hispanic shooter George Zimmerman acting in self-defense? Was Martin an innocent bystander who just wanted Skittles and an Arizona Ice Tea? There is strong evidence to suggest that Zimmerman was acting in self-defense, but that’s beside the point.

Whether Zimmerman was maliciously attacked by Martin or whether Zimmerman was the instigator, here is the important fact that no one in the left wing, anti-white media will turn a critical eye to: “Census figures show Retreat at Twin Lakes is 49 percent white, non-Hispanic, 23 percent Hispanic, 20 percent African-American and 5 percent Asian.”

In other words, the neighborhood where this shooting happened is exactly the kind of diversity wonderland Progressives want to see all across the United States. But is the Martin shooting the only incident that has happened in Twin Lakes? Not by a long shot:

The answer may lie in police records, which show that 50 suspicious-person reports were called in to police in the past year at Twin Lakes. There were eight burglaries, nine thefts and one other shooting in the year prior to Trayvon’s death.

In all, police had been called to the 260-unit complex 402 times from Jan. 1, 2011 to Feb. 26, 2012.

“He once caught a thief and an arrest was made,” said Cynthia Wibker, secretary of the homeowners association. “He helped solve a lot of crimes.”

Put it another way, Twin Lakes averaged one police call per day for over an entire year. And Twin Lakes is a gated community. It’s supposed to be protected from criminals.

Do white suburban communities like Clarkston, Lake Orion and Milford have so much crime that they average over one police call per day for any one year stretch? Of course not! Why? Allow Progressive Robert Putnam to explain:

“After 30,000 interviews, Putnam concludes and reports, against his own progressive convictions, that ethnic and racial diversity can be devastating to communities and destructive of community values.”
