A 51-year-old man suffered a possible broken jaw when he was mugged by two attackers in the parking lot of Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights on Friday morning, according to police.

Police said the victim was robbed about 10:15 a.m. he walked in the parking lot near the Sears store on Hall Road near Schoenherr Road. The muggers stole his wallet and a briefcase that contained nothing of great monetary value, said Lt. Luke Riley.

“He was transported to the hospital for treatment of a possible broken jaw and he had a pretty good laceration on his head,” Riley said.

According to police, the victim had stopped at the TJ Maxx store on Hall Road in Shelby Township, across from Lakeside Mall, and then walked over to Lakeside.

That’s when two men in a silver SUV trailed behind him. A passenger got out, confronted the victim and punched him in the face.

“Then there was a struggle because the guy fought back,” Riley said. “The driver got out of the SUV and came over and hit the man in the head with some sort of weapon or object and the victim fell to the ground.”

The victim was transported to Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township for treatment of his injuries.

Witnesses were able to provide police with the last four digits for the SUV’s license plate — 5614. The occupants were described as black males.
