Three men arrested for random racial hate crime murder in Gretna, Louisiana

Three black men in Gretna, Louisiana have been arrested for killing a white taxi cab driver for the fun of it. The thugs got into the back of a taxi cab and then opened fire on the driver from behind.

Gretna police have arrested three teens in connection with the Tuesday night murder of a cab driver, according to a Wednesday morning update from authorities.

Police arrested Jonah Brown, 17, after a foot chase Tuesday night. He will be charged with first-degree murder since the shooting happened during an armed robbery, according to Anthony Christiana, Gretna’s deputy police chief.

As of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Tavon Corley, 19, and Ivory Warren, 18, also were in custody. Corley will be charged with accessory to first-degree murder, Christiana said, and Warren will be charged with first-degree murder.

The victim was identified as Blake J. Helmer, 55, a long-time driver for Glenn’s Cab Co. Police said he was shot multiple times and was taken to a hospital for surgery. He later died at the hospital.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Franklin and Rupp streets in Gretna.

At a press conference Wednesday morning, Christiana said the three teens called for a cab and “executed” Helmer within a block of being picked up.
