Turkish president says Muslims “have never taken part in terrorist massacres”

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, as well as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, marched in the Paris Unity parade.

The march was supposed to show international unity, and a commitment to freedom of speech, following the Charlie Hebdo massacre by Sunni Muslim Jihadists.

After leaving the march, Abbas stopped in Turkey to meet with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at his new presidential palace. The president showed off his new 1,105 room palace . He had a marching band and 16 costumed figures representing the “16 historical Turkish empires.”

Erdogan slammed the West as “hypocrites” and “racists.” He stated “As Muslims, we’ve never taken part in terrorist massacres.”

Modern day Turkey is what remains of the Ottoman Empire, founded by the Osmali Turks. For hundreds of years the Ottoman Empire dominated the Muslim world. They relentlessly mass murdered and enslaved non-Muslims from Africa to Russia. In 1915, Turkey mass murdered over a million Christians, mostly Armenians.

In recent years, Turkey has become more aggressive with it’s neighbors. It has repeatedly threatened to invade Syria and Iraq. Turkey is actively opposing Kurdish statehood in Iraq, blocking Kurdish militias from fighting ISIS in Syria, and suppressing Kurdish movements inside Turkey.

Turkey and the Jewish people have a 550 year history of friendship and alliances. However, in 2011, the Turkish-Israel alliance collapsed. Turkey suspended their military alliance with Israel and downgraded diplomatic ties. Turkey has been rapidly positioning itself as a pan-Muslim leader. Erdogan himself has been trying to appear as a champion of the Palestinian people, as well as a champion of Muslim immigrants living in Europe.

In his speech after welcoming the Palestinian leader, Erdogan addressed Western states, accusing them of hypocrisy over the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly’s attack last week. He said the West is not doing enough to protect mosques from anti-Muslim attacks.

“The West’s hypocrisy is obvious. As Muslims, we’ve never taken part in terrorist massacres. Behind these lie racism, hate speech and Islamophobia.”

“Please, the administrations in those countries where our mosques are attacked need to take measures,” he said. “Games are being played with the Islamic world, we need to be aware of this.”

Erdogan strongly criticized the presence of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the rally commemorating the victims of the attacks in Paris.

“How can a man who has killed 25,000 people in Gaza with state terrorism wave his hand in Paris, like people are waiting in excitement for him to do so? How dare he go there?” Erdogan questioned.
